Reel Cinema Investigation 10th March 2012
Screen 1: Reported Activity.
Chair (seat 2) flipping up in the front row twice, whilst the group in there were using a spirit board. Through the board, the group contacted a young man named Tom Quick who said he was 23 and that he died in a fire in 1865. The group asked Tom to make a noise for them, he responded by making a knocking sound from behind the screen. The group asked if he could do something else for them, Tom responded by flipping up seat 2 in the front row, after wedging the seat back down, the group asked Tom to do it again, the chair flipped up for a second time. One guest at the investigation carried out some research after the investigation to see what he could find out about Tom Quick. In his own words, this what he found:
“Thanks for the great night last night. As I’m a sceptic, I did go with an open mind and can’t explain some of the things that happened in the Reel cinema. As well as taking that very strange photo we used the Ouija board. The name Tom Quick came up, who said he was 23 and died in a fire in 1865? So all morning I’ve been going through all the records I could find online and I think I found him? He was fighting in the American Civil War (1861-1865) in the 124th NYSV as a First Lieutenant from August 20, 1862, to January 1, 1864. In January 1864 he sailed from New York to Plymouth which is in the shipping record. I’m not sure what he was doing here but before the war he was well known for composing music and could have worked at the theatre as a composer? He stated that he died in a fire in 1865? There was a fire at the theatre but in 1862, 1863 and 13th of June 1878. So where did he die?” (Geraint Carl Williams, 11/03/2012).
In addition, a few people reported the feeling of being touched on their legs. Footsteps were heard walking along the back, when everyone was sat down the front in silence. There was a constant high EMF reading around seat 26. In another group, a guest was stood beside seat 26, when the chair flipped up. In his own words, this is what he had to say about it:
“Good fun last night. Really enjoyed it, the chair flipping up beside me was a brown trouser moment. Thanks Guys” (James Gray, 11/03/2012).
Screen 2 Reported Activity:
Whilst carrying out a large group Séance, people reported being touched. One guest claimed that he felt as if someone was tugging on his trouser legs and pushing his knees forward. At this time there was a noticeable drop in temperature from 26⁰c to 17⁰c. Another guest using dowsing rods picked up the spirit of a man at the back of the room. Also when the same group were carrying out a quiet visual, a grunting sound was heard coming from the fire exit area (this is when one guest took a photo, that appeared to capture more than one apparition - Please see photo 1 and 2). Another group used a spirit board to communicate with a young girl spirit called Vera... They didn’t get much communication from Vera, apart from that she was 6, and that she appeared to be scared of another presence there. After carrying out some research, nothing was found out about Vera. Hopefully, she’ll come through again at another investigation and allow us to know a little bit more about her. An interesting EVP was caught in screen 2, when there was no one in the room, a sort of deep breath/grunting sound was heard – Please listen to EVP 1).
Screen 3 Reported Activity:
When carrying out a quiet visual, one guest thought it felt like someone was digging a finger nail into his head. Nothing much else was reported in screen 3.
Ladies Toilet Reported Activity:
In the ladies toilet one group reported hearing tapping noises. In all groups the emf meter picked up a higher reading near the right end toilet. In addition, a few people reported the feeling of being uncomfortable in there. One group communicated with a woman spirit, who showed a considerable amount of dislike towards men. In her own words this is what one guest member had to say about her experience in the ladies toilet:
“My last experience, and probably one of my most memorable took place in the ladies bathroom. We had decided to do a ouija board and also took with us an EMF meter. After checking the bathroom fully with the meter and finding a slightly higher lever (with no reason for it) near the far cubical, we decided to leave the meter there during the session. We got no response from the ouija board, so removed it and used just the table. We managed to get a response from someone who confirmed themselves as a female. She told us she did not like men in the ladies bathroom. During the session the EMF meter went mad! When we asked it to stop, it STOPPED! We ask the spirit if she had caused the meter to react, she agreed she had. We then asked her to set the meter off again, it did! For a good half hour we able to get her to respond to us using the meter. She even set the meter off every time one of us tried to leave, informing us on the table that she didn't want us to go and enjoyed our company.
I had an absolutely fantastic night! This was my first investigation and I can't wait to join you all again” (Debra Wilkinson, 12/03/2012).
On the whole, the Reel Cinema proved to be a productive investigation, with results that has made many of the sceptical guests’ seriously consider the possibility that there may be such a thing as paranormal and spirits.
