Lydford Castle

Lydford Castle - Dartmoor

09.00 pm - 01.00 am

Lydford Castle is thought to have been built in 1132. The first records of its use are that it was a prison; known as Lydford Goal. There is no doubt that all of the prisoners’ there would have been certain to have lived a torturous life and died a hideous death. The saying ‘Lydford Law’ originates from Lydford Goal because it was where unjustified gruesome acts took place and many of the prisoners were hung and drawn within the castle’s walls. Lydford Castle is thought to be gravely haunted by several of the poor souls that suffered mercilessly, and by some of the callous prison guards that inflicted such anguish. Lydford Castle is an excellent location that has acquired its menacing reputation because it’s draped with a sinister atmosphere; that can chill even the most hardened ghost hunter’s bones!
